Gas Buy Down

The madness found another gear tonight...

The gas buy down was a huge hit! After we increased the buy down from 15 to 40 cents the placed filled up in less than fifteen minutes. All twenty pumps were two to three cars deep. It was incredible to see our team serving--pumping gas, washing windshields, and filling up washer fluid tanks.

By the end of the night, Channels 5 and 9 showed up for on the spot video shoots and interviews. If you read this before 11 p.m. (Wednesday) you might want to tune in. A reporter from the Pulse Journal also dropped by. All three news outlets appeared without any calls from the Journey team!

I love it when people ask, "Why are you doing this?" Answering that question never gets old.

What an evening! This is too much fun!!

I just saw the news story and had to check out your website! I'm a pastor in Northern Kentucky and thought to myself, "Wow!! What an awesome idea!" Can you share a little bit about the steps you took to make this happen?

Also, I've been scanning the rest of your blog. Looks really great with some cool practical stuff your church has done. I love it!

Markus: Thanks for the comment! I would be glad to share. I'll send you a direct email with a few more of the behind the scenes details if you want more information. Email me at tom[@]cincyjourney[.]org

Bottom line is this: We want Journey Church to be known as a church that is for the community. Our passion is to help disconnected people (from Church/Christ) find those connections! We unerstand that we cannot wait on people to "come to us." We must, however, go to them.

The idea of March Madness was birthed from a simple staff brainstorming session in January last year (This is the second year in a row tha we have done the "event"). We wanted a way that we could get out into the community during the spring and simply share God's love with our city.

I remember the question being asked, "What could we do in a week that would communicate we love our city?" Someone said, "How about we raise some additional money and give it all away?" Then it was sugested that we grab the March Madness name and run with it. Ideas kept building and a year later it has grown even more.

It has been a blast!
